A Mindbody alternative built for boutique studios
Slate Fit is booking, memberships and the front desk for pilates, spin, yoga and barre studios, with one location or eight. If you are weighing a move from Mindbody, this page sets out what Slate Fit does and how the move works.
What studios need
What boutique studios want from a Mindbody alternative
Studios that sell a room rather than a headcount need a few things from their booking software:
- Members who book a specific bike or reformer from a plan of the room.
- Card payments that land in a Stripe account in the business’s own name.
- Managers who run their own locations without seeing or changing everyone else’s.
- A waitlist and a late-cancellation policy that run themselves.
- A move that somebody does with them, rather than a spreadsheet they are left to check.
That is the list Slate Fit was built around. The sections below take each in turn.
Payments
How Mindbody charges for payments, and where yours go with Slate Fit
From Mindbody’s own pages, as read on October 8, 2026:
- A business that chooses Mindbody Payments pays a payment processing rate plus a fixed fee of $0.10 to $0.30 per transaction in North America, and Mindbody’s pricing page does not list the rate itself. Source.
- Mindbody charges a marketplace fee of 20%, capped at $30, on the first purchase by a new client its app delivers who would not otherwise have found you. Bookings by existing clients carry no fee. Source.
With Slate Fit, card payments from every location land in a Stripe account in your business’s name, with your own Stripe dashboard. Members, saved cards and subscriptions are created on that account, not on ours. Cards are collected by Stripe, never by our servers.
The room
Booking from a plan of the room
Members see your room as it stands, with its rows, its gaps and the pillar nobody wants to stand behind, and they book the bike, reformer or barre spot they want.
- Each spot is sold once. The database refuses a second booking, so two members tapping the same bike in the same second cannot both get it.
- Pillars, the podium and the gap by the door are blocked cells nobody can book.
- A front-row bike or a tower can cost more credits than the rest, and some spots can be for members only.
- Mat and yoga classes run in open-floor rooms with a headcount, in the same timetable.
Locations
A Mindbody alternative for more than one location
Every staff role is given for the whole business, a region, or one studio. Ask to change a studio you do not run and you are refused outright, never handed an empty list. A membership can cover every location or only the ones you choose, and a cancellation policy set once for the business can be changed for the one studio that runs differently.
Multi-location studio softwareThe day to day
The waitlist, late cancellations and the door
- When a place opens, the next member is offered it or booked straight in, whichever you choose, and nobody at the desk moves anyone by hand.
- Members are told a cancellation is late before they confirm it, and that a fee may apply. Fees go to your Stripe account.
- One roster per class, with each member’s spot beside their name: check in, mark the no-shows, undo a mis-tap.
- Recurring classes hold their local time across the clock changes in March and November.
What you sell
Memberships, class packs and guests
Sell monthly memberships with a fresh class allowance each period, and class packs with an expiry date or none. A membership can carry guest passes, so a member can bring a friend to the same class. Any product can be limited to the locations, class types and spot types you choose, so a mat pack never books a reformer.
A member’s balance is worked out from every credit they were given and every class they took, so it is always the sum of what happened rather than a number somebody typed.
Your data
Your members and your history, in your business’s own database
Your classes, members and history sit in your business’s own database, never in a table shared with another business. Emails to members come from your own verified domain. And if you ever leave, you take your data with you.
Switching
Switching from Mindbody to Slate Fit
Class-pack credits are the part that goes wrong in a migration, so we do the move with you, on a call, rather than handing you a file to check afterwards.
- Your members, class packs, remaining credits and expiry dates come across with you.
- With more than one location, one goes first as a pilot and the rest follow in an order that suits your calendar.
- We agree what your members are told, and when, before anything changes for them.
- Go live on a quiet day, not the morning your busiest class opens for booking.
On the demo
What to check on any demo, Mindbody included
Whichever way you go, watch these happen on screen rather than on a slide:
- A member booking a specific bike or reformer, and what a second member sees when they tap the same one.
- A manager trying to change a studio they do not run.
- A cancellation inside the late window: what the member is told before they confirm.
- A full class losing a member, and how the next one gets in.
- Where a card payment lands, and in whose name that account is.
